Care & Maintenance (1095 High Carbon Steel)
1095 high carbon steel offers excellent performance and edge retention, but it benefits from basic care to keep it performing its best.
-
Keep the blade clean and dry: After use, wipe the blade clean and dry thoroughly—especially after exposure to moisture, food, or organic material.
-
Lightly oil when needed: Apply a thin coat of food-safe mineral oil or a rust-preventive oil before storage.
-
Avoid long-term moisture exposure: Do not store the knife in a wet sheath or damp environment. Allow both the knife and sheath to dry fully after use.
-
Sharpen as required: 1095 steel sharpens easily with stones, guided systems, or stropping. Regular touch-ups maintain peak performance.
-
Patina is normal: A natural patina may develop over time. This is normal and can provide additional corrosion resistance.
With proper care, The Genesis will provide years of reliable service in camp and in the field.
